Ian's First Day of Second Grade! I love how he already has a hint of attitude to his stance!
Ian and his buds.
Ian's second grade Classroom. Hollywood is the theme, so they all received popcorn bags full of movie loot. Ian's in the back row with the gold glasses!
There is a memorable story to this door. We first saw this door at open house two days before school started. We discovered at this time that Ian's buddies above were all assigned to the other second grade classroom. Needless to say, Ian was immediately upset and dissappointed. Well, Daddy stayed home with Ava and Will to allow Mommy and Ian to have some alone time for this outing. We felt it would just be a bit less chaotic for Ian if we didn't bring the whole crew along. Little did I know to expect an emotional trauma to occur, or we would have brought Daddy with us. A hormonal, lactating mommy is pretty much like a fierce Mama Bear. Ian was on the verge of tears the whole time we toured his new classroom and met his teacher. This meant that hormonal mommy was also just on the verge of losing it. I kept trying to assure him (with tears in my eyes) that he'd still see his friends at recess and in lunch, Kennard is a small school and that there would be many opportunities to still play together, That this meant that he'd be able to meet new friends this year and that he'd have fewer distractions while in the classroom. He kept agreeing with me and was doing his best to keep it together. We managed to completely tour the room and do all that was required, and then he asked if we could stop by and see his first grade teacher Mrs. Kadlec. I said absolutely. We ventured down to her room and the minute he saw her he began to CRY!!! So, this meant I too began to cry!! Poor Mrs. Kadlec didn't know what to do. She quickly moved us to a corner so that we wouldn't embarase ourselves and scare other parents. She then offered us smarties and a diet coke. It was really funny!! She later called me at home to check on Ian, which was very sweet. Anyhoo, the lesson in the story is don't take your child to the first day of school when you are a lactating, hormonal mess. It's not safe for anyone.
