Carpenter Chad

Chad spent most the weekend making our new hardwood floor. Our attic had an original wood floor that we removed. We are recycling it as flooring in our new office. After spending the last seventy years in the attic baking and freezing it needed a little TLC.

This was Chad's workshop. The fire wasn't just for warmth. He set his saw up so that it would blow the dust directly onto the fire. Resourcful man! He spent a whole day cutting the boards down to width and length, and regrooving them. Some of the planks were originally long enough to span the width of our house. He then made connector strips so that the flooring will fit like tongue and groove.

Ta da! Here are the gorgeous boards on my dining room floor waiting to be installed.

(Sidenote: I've been struggling with why this pile took my hubby all day long to make!! My theory is that the fire and table saw were much more appealing then listening to his wife and children clean out closets and barter toys for charity.)

  1. BTW… I would have much rather been in the warm house with my lovely wife and children than out in the dreary cold next to a smokey fire getting sawdust in my eyes and splinters in my fingers. It took all day, because that’s how long it took…
