Yummo Bird Feeders

Snow day number 2, and we had to do an activity or mommy was going to lose it. One busy body I can handle, but two just get into trouble and destroy the house too quickly.

We decided to make pinecone bird feeders. Something Ian's been wanting to do for awhile, and it also just so happens to be a cub scout requirement.

First we covered the pinecones with peanut butter. Ian is like me and hates stuff under his finger nails, so he bawked at first. Once he started though he really enjoyed it.

Ava discovered that it was way more fun to eat the ingredients, including the bird seed! I guess it was just crunchy peanut butter. YUM!!

Then we rolled them in the bird seed and filled all the nooks.

Hard to see, but we did six total.

Then we got dressed and headed outside to hang up our masterpieces.

It was lightly snowing in the morning so there wasn't any wildlife out and about. Then we were suddently invaded by black birds and squirrels. This was our favorite guest. He came back three days in a row to finish off that cone. Many ask us why we don't have a garden, especially since Chad was a farm boy and has bins of worms he uses to compost. Well, here is pictorial proof of the evil squirrels who live in our neighborhood. They find a way to eat EVERYTHING!!! Nothing is squirrel proof, and there is no contraption or fencing they cannot penetrate. They have razor teeth and unbelievable acrobatic abilities. Even the black birds stand in awe of them!
