For those that have never had the priviledge of attending a race, here is a look at what the track looks like (Middle age men in khaki with lots of colorful badges are always present at Scout meetings). As you can see, there are six racing lanes. The cars are divided into heats of six or less.
Each car races six times, so that they have a chance to be clocked in each lane. This is the finish line, which is all electronic. All times are logged by a computer which compiles the averages.
There sits Car-zilla!
Here is Ian and his friend Matthew. They were babies in the same day care class, and also attended Wilkinson together. Ian has really missed him since transferring to Kennard. They still see each other at least once a month at Pack meetings. I cannot believe how big they look!
The proud racer. Ian did not qualify to move forward into the finals. He made a choice at the beginning to go for "most artistic" not fastest car. We kept reminding him of this over the past month, for his car isn't at all built for speed. A giant open mouth full of teeth is a bit of a wind deterrant. Anyhoo, on race night Ian came in forth in his heat, and only the top three move forward. He was a bit distraught over it at first, however, then he saw that his blue ribbon was for "most artistic!" Granted all the boys received trophys and ribbons, however, the ribbons were all for different things and Praise God that Ian's actually said "most artistic!"
First race a success!! Stay tuned for there will most likely be many more to come!
